The Linux kernel 7.2 has been officially released, introducing a range of significant updates and enhancements. Key features include cache-aware load-balancing support, which optimizes resource distribution across systems. HDMI 2.1 FRL support has been added to the AMDGPU driver, enabling higher bandwidth for 4K and 8K video. Devres-based management of ACPI notify handlers improves power efficiency, while initial CRI platform support for the Intel Xe driver expands graphics capabilities. Rust support for the IBM System/390 architecture enhances system stability. A ‘Fair(er)’ GPU scheduler aims to improve performance for graphics-intensive tasks.
