Apple Prepares Major Software Overhaul and Addresses AI at WWDC 2025

Apple’s WWDC 2025, scheduled for June 9, will showcase a significant refresh of all its operating systems, including iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, visionOS, and tvOS. Instead of following their traditional versioning system, all platforms are reportedly jumping directly to version 26. This shift appears to be more symbolic than technical, indicating a unifying aesthetic direction across the ecosystem. Inspired by the translucent, glassy look of visionOS, Apple is expected to apply this design language to all devices, marking the most extensive visual update since iOS 7 in 2013.

Alongside visual updates, there may be functional additions like a Preview-like app for iOS and iPadOS and a potential new ‘Gaming’ app for mobile. However, one of the most anticipated—and controversial—topics remains AI. Apple’s delayed improvements to Siri and its broader AI initiative, ‘Apple Intelligence,’ have sparked criticism. While generative features such as Genmoji and notification summaries have launched, the more advanced capabilities of Siri are still absent.

Observers expect Apple to focus heavily on optics at this event—addressing its lag in the AI race compared to rivals like Google and OpenAI. Whether the company reclaims a leadership role or continues to trail in AI innovation may be determined by this keynote.
