Lucid Bots Secures $20 Million Series B to Scale U.S.-Made Window-Washing Drones Amid Growing Demand
Charlotte, North Carolina-based Lucid Bots, a full-stack robotics company specializing in practical solutions for dangerous and labor-intensive cleaning tasks, has raised $20 million in a Series B funding round co-led by Cubit Capital and Idea Fund Partners. This brings the company’s total funding to $34 million. Founded in 2018 by Andrew Ashur, who drew inspiration from witnessing unsafe window-washing practices during his time at Davidson College, Lucid Bots started as a cleaning services company to better understand industry needs before developing its technology. The company designs and manufactures its Sherpa drones and Lavo robot entirely in the United States, deploying them to help cleaning firms perform window washing, pressure washing, and related tasks more safely and efficiently. Unlike many robotics startups focused on flashy humanoid demos or hype, Lucid Bots emphasizes real-world performance on job sites, with drones already generating measurable improvements in customer profits and safety. After a slow start that took five years to sell its first 100 units, sales have accelerated dramatically, approaching 1,000 robots deployed. The company faces strong demand, with more demo requests than available hours, prompting plans to expand hiring and manufacturing capacity. Data from deployed robots feeds back into software improvements, and Lucid Bots is extending capabilities into adjacent applications such as painting, waterproofing, and sealing, including a recent project waterproofing a large university stadium. Ashur highlighted three major challenges in built infrastructure maintenance: aging structures, increasingly massive new builds, and a shrinking workforce willing to perform high-risk jobs. The fresh capital will support scaling operations to meet this market opportunity in a sector where practical, field-tested robotics can deliver immediate value over laboratory concepts.
