US Lawyer Named Mark Zuckerberg Sues Meta Over Repeated Facebook Account Suspensions
A US bankruptcy lawyer named Mark S Zuckerberg has filed a lawsuit against Meta, the parent company of Facebook, over repeated wrongful suspensions of his Facebook account. Despite sharing the same name as Facebook’s founder Mark Elliot Zuckerberg, the Indiana-based attorney claims that his profile was suspended five times in the past eight years, each time accused of impersonating a celebrity. These actions have reportedly cost him thousands of dollars in lost business, especially as his paid advertisements, worth $11,000, were improperly taken down. Mark S Zuckerberg states he has been practising law for nearly four decades, predating the founding Mark Zuckerberg’s rise, and has provided ample evidence including government IDs and credit cards to prove his identity. Meta eventually restored his account after the latest suspension in May following the lawsuit and acknowledged the mistake, promising measures to prevent such errors in the future. The lawyer has also created a website to document similar issues he has faced due to the name confusion, which has caused complications including being mistakenly sued by the state of Washington. Meta’s statement emphasized their appreciation for his patience and commitment to resolving the issue.
