Predictions for Meta Connect 2025: Upcoming Smart Glasses, No New Headset, and More
Meta Connect 2025, set for September 17-18, is expected to bring some significant announcements about Meta’s plans for artificial intelligence, the metaverse, and wearables. One of the biggest predictions is the unveiling of Meta’s Hypernova smart glasses, featuring a monocular heads-up display (HUD) controlled by finger gestures through a wristband. These glasses are not aimed at augmented reality, but will feature notifications, weather updates, navigation, and text-based AI responses. The product, codenamed Celeste, may retail for around $800, down from an initial $1000 price point. Another major focus at the event is a potential software development kit (SDK) for developers to create apps for these glasses. Although no new Quest headset is expected this year, there may be a preview of third-party headsets running Meta’s Horizon OS, such as those from Asus and Lenovo. Additionally, Meta could introduce new features in Horizon OS, like screen sharing, in response to similar functionalities found in Apple’s Vision Pro. While new VR games like Deadpool VR are expected, no big announcements regarding blockbuster games are likely. The keynote, which will be streamed on September 17, promises to be a significant moment for Meta’s future in AI and the metaverse.
