Meta and EssilorLuxottica Launch Oakley Smart Glasses with AI Assistant for Athletes

Meta and EssilorLuxottica have introduced the Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses, marking the latest advancement in their ongoing collaboration. Targeted primarily at athletes, these glasses start at $399 and feature Oakley’s PRIZM Lens technology, which improves visibility in varying light and weather conditions. This launch represents an expansion beyond the companies’ earlier smart glasses under the Ray-Ban brand, first released in 2021, with a notably successful second-generation model in 2023. The Oakley Meta HSTN includes a longer battery life and an upgraded camera compared to its Ray-Ban counterpart, priced from $299. Users can interact with Meta’s AI digital assistant via the glasses and an associated smartphone app to perform tasks such as checking the weather or recording videos. The glasses come in multiple frame and lens color options and are water-resistant. A limited-edition model with gold lenses will be available for $499 starting July 11, while the standard version will launch later this summer. The development of smart glasses is gaining traction, with companies like Alphabet partnering with Warby Parker and Snap preparing to release advanced augmented reality glasses soon.
