Meta and Oakley Launch 3K Video Smart Glasses with Improved Battery and Performance Features
Meta has unveiled its latest smart glasses in collaboration with Oakley, building on the success of the Ray-Ban Meta glasses released in 2023. The new Oakley Meta HSTN glasses offer substantial improvements, including a 3K video camera—an upgrade from the full HD in the Ray-Ban version—and a 50% longer battery life, now lasting up to eight hours of typical use. The charging case also sees a boost, offering up to 48 hours of power on the go. These enhancements aim to appeal to more active users, aligning with Oakley’s focus on performance and innovation.
Constructed with Oakley’s lightweight and durable O-Matter material, the new glasses are designed for sports and outdoor use. Meta worked closely with Oakley to maintain brand authenticity while improving comfort, ensuring the smart glasses remain stable during activity. The glasses include Meta AI integration, flexible hinges, and optional PRIZM lenses for enhanced visual detail. They carry an IPX4 water-resistance rating, suitable for splashes but not submersion—though Meta hints at future IP67-rated versions.
The Oakley Meta HSTN will be available in six finishes, starting with a $499 limited edition with gold accents and 24K PRIZM Polar lenses. Standard editions will cost $399 and open for preorder on July 11. Meta and EssilorLuxottica aim to scale up smart glasses production to 10 million units annually by 2026, with more brand partnerships likely ahead.
