Microsoft to Retire Outlook Lite for Android Users on May 25

Microsoft has announced that the Outlook Lite app for Android will be fully retired on May 25, 2026. After this date, the app will no longer provide any mailbox functionality, and users will need to switch to Outlook Mobile to continue accessing their emails securely. Outlook Lite, designed for lower-end Android devices, has struggled to keep up with modern email security and functionality requirements. Microsoft recommends users transition to Outlook Mobile to ensure uninterrupted access to emails, calendars, and attachments. There are two ways to make the switch: either manually search for Outlook Mobile in the Google Play Store or use the built-in ‘Upgrade’ option within Outlook Lite, which redirects users to the Play Store. While accounts will not be deleted, email functionality will cease once the retirement date passes. The move reflects the broader trend of consolidating apps to enhance security and feature support, similar to issues Gmail users have experienced with Exchange Online accounts. Users are cautioned against clicking suspicious links and should follow Microsoft’s official upgrade path.
