Microsoft Updates Sign-In UI with Fluent 2 Design and Dark Mode
Microsoft is rolling out a redesigned sign-in interface for over a billion users accessing services such as Outlook, Windows, Xbox, and Microsoft 365. This update is part of the company’s Fluent 2 design language and introduces a dark mode, particularly tailored for Xbox users. The new UI is designed to improve the authentication experience with a streamlined layout that emphasizes passwordless sign-ins and passkeys. According to Robin Goldstein, partner director of product management for Microsoft Identity, the goal is to reduce cognitive load and speed up the login process by optimizing the flow of authentication steps. Initially, the changes will be visible in gaming apps, with broader implementation across web and mobile services followed by Windows applications. However, enterprise users with Microsoft Entra accounts will not see these changes for now. Microsoft has also hinted at future updates regarding automatic sign-ins, following confusion caused by a previous notification to Outlook.com users. The company has since clarified its stance and is expected to provide further updates soon.
