Global Motherboard Market Declines Amid Component Shortages and Price Increases

Motherboard sales among major manufacturers are experiencing significant declines in 2026 due to a combination of rising prices and shortages in critical PC components, driven by high demand from AI and data center markets. Asus, which shipped 15 million motherboards in 2025, is expected to sell only around 10 million units by the end of 2026, reflecting a 33% decrease year-on-year. Gigabyte and MSI are projected to see drops of 22% and 24%, respectively, while ASRock faces the steepest decline at 37%. The overall contraction for the top four motherboard producers is estimated at 28%. The shortage of CPUs, RAM, and storage, alongside delayed releases of Intel’s Nova Lake processors and Nvidia’s RTX 60 series GPUs, is discouraging PC builders from upgrading systems. Consumers are holding onto their existing PCs longer, with some relying on older hardware for tasks that don’t require high performance. The trend is further influenced by Windows 11 compatibility issues and rising costs for components, making new builds financially prohibitive. Analysts expect these conditions to persist through the year, affecting both DIY and branded PC sales.
