Jaguar Land Rover Production Disrupted by Claims of Teen Hacker Group Involvement

A group of young hackers, identifying themselves as ‘Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters,’ claim to have carried out a cyber attack that has disrupted global production lines at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). The group has shared screenshots from inside JLR’s IT networks on the messaging app Telegram, although it is unclear whether they have stolen any data or installed malware. The hackers have also been linked to previous attacks on UK retailers, including M&S, Co-op, and Harrods. Security experts suggest that the images indicate potential access to JLR’s internal systems. JLR confirmed awareness of the claims and said it took immediate action by shutting down systems to mitigate the attack’s impact. Production at Halewood and Solihull plants has been heavily affected, with staff sent home while efforts are underway to resume operations. The group’s Telegram channel has nearly 52,000 subscribers, and it reportedly merges members from various previous youth hacking groups. Earlier this year, the National Crime Agency warned about threats from such cybercriminal networks, and arrests have been made in connection to prior retail hacks. Authorities are monitoring the situation, but JLR has stated that, so far, there is no evidence that customer data has been compromised.
