Netflix’s Ad-Supported Plan Reaches 94 Million Monthly Users as New Ad Formats Roll Out
Netflix has announced significant growth in its ad-supported subscription tier, which now reaches over 94 million users each month. This is a notable jump from 40 million users in May 2024 and 70 million in November of the same year. The $7.99-per-month ad tier has rapidly expanded since its 2022 launch, as Netflix continues to invest in new advertising formats. These include pause ads—displayed when viewers pause their content—and interactive mid-stream ads, both of which are expected to roll out fully by the end of 2026.
At its recent upfront presentation to advertisers, Netflix emphasized the effectiveness of its in-house advertising platform, now operational in the US and Canada, with plans to expand to all 12 countries where the ad tier is available by June 2025. Amy Reinhard, the company’s president of advertising, highlighted the strong user engagement on the ad-supported tier, noting that viewers spend an average of 41 hours per month on the platform.
Although Netflix no longer shares total subscriber figures quarterly, it previously reported over 300 million global users as of January. The company views the rapid progress of its ad business as a key growth area and intends to accelerate development in the coming months.
