Latvian-Made BEAK Drone Offers Reusable, Jamming-Resistant Capabilities in Modern Combat
Latvian company Origin Robotics has developed BEAK, a versatile military-grade quadcopter designed to operate in electronic warfare environments while performing both reconnaissance and precision strike missions. The drone, already deployed in Ukraine, features a 15-kilometer operational range, anti-jamming autonomy, and interchangeable payloads that allow rapid switching between surveillance and attack roles without tools. Key innovations include a thermal imager capable of detecting individuals at 1 km in darkness, flight durations up to 75 minutes, and the PGM-18 smart munition – a jamming-proof guided bomb that uses optical targeting. CEO Agris Kipurs emphasizes BEAK’s cost-effectiveness, claiming it delivers precision strikes at 1/20th the cost of a Javelin missile per successful engagement. Unlike disposable FPV drones, BEAK’s reusability (averaging 69+ missions for similar Ukrainian drones) and military-grade construction aim to address evolving counter-drone threats. The system’s dual-use design and rapid scalability position it as a potential deterrent against Russian aggression in the Baltic region.
