NVIDIA Releases Additional Header Files for Blackwell and Hopper GPU Architectures to Support Open-Source Drivers

NVIDIA has taken another step towards enhancing open-source GPU support by releasing more header files for its Blackwell and Hopper GPU architectures. The release includes important header files aimed at supporting the open-source drivers Nouveau/NVK and the new NOVA Rust driver. These header files are crucial for improving compatibility and functionality for users who rely on open-source GPU drivers rather than proprietary ones. Last week, NVIDIA made headlines by open-sourcing 12,000 lines of C header files for the Blackwell architecture, a move that is aimed at aiding the development of open-source drivers. Now, NVIDIA has expanded this initiative further by releasing additional files, which were pushed to their open-source documentation repository. Specifically, the newly made available files include DMA-copy class header files for both Hopper and Blackwell GPUs. As a result of these efforts, the code has already been integrated into Mesa Git, a widely used open-source graphics stack. These ongoing contributions from NVIDIA are part of a broader strategy to foster a more open and accessible environment for GPU developers and users, ensuring better compatibility with open-source software and offering more flexibility for the community.
