NVIDIA’s RTX Kit 2026.3 Update Introduces RTX Mega Geometry 2.0 and RTX Neural Texture Compression Beta
NVIDIA has released the RTX Kit 2026.3 update for developers, featuring two significant additions: RTX Mega Geometry 2.0 and RTX Neural Texture Compression 0.10 beta. The update also includes support for the Microsoft DirectX 12 Agility SDK preview, Windows ARM64 compatibility, and improvements to ray-traced scenes, texture compression, and other RTX tools. RTX Neural Texture Compression leverages AI for texture compression and RTX Tensor Cores for real-time texture decompression, potentially reducing VRAM usage by up to 90% in some scenarios. This technology could allow modern 8GB GPUs to run games with maximum texture quality while using significantly less memory. RTX Mega Geometry 2.0 expands ray-tracing capabilities to more complex environments, enhancing detail and performance in ray-traced scenes. It introduces ‘continuous level-of-detail clusters for high-density meshes,’ making it ideal for fast-paced action games like Gears of War: E-Day. The update also enhances Unreal Engine 5’s Nanite virtualized geometry system, creating more detailed environments without the high computational cost typically associated with traditional ray-tracing. The RTX Kit 2026.3 update also includes other improvements such as RTX Character Rendering 1.4, RTX Dynamic Illumination 3.1, RTX Neural Shading 1.4, and RTX Texture Filtering 1.3. These updates collectively aim to improve the efficiency and quality of ray-tracing and texture handling in games, paving the way for more widespread adoption of advanced graphics technologies in future titles. The update is currently available for developers, with RTX Mega Geometry 2.0 set to debut in Gears of War: E-Day, and RTX Neural Texture Compression expected to be integrated into games as developers adopt the new tools.
