Pebble smartwatches regain their iconic name after trademark recovery

Pebble, one of the earliest pioneers in the smartwatch industry, has officially reclaimed its iconic brand name after Eric Migicovsky, CEO of Core Devices, successfully recovered the Pebble trademark. Migicovsky shared the update in a blog post, expressing his surprise at how smoothly the process went. With the trademark secured, products previously known as the ‘Core 2 Duo’ and ‘Core Time 2’ will now be rebranded as ‘Pebble 2 Duo’ and ‘Pebble Time 2,’ respectively. This marks a significant moment in the comeback of Pebble, which was acquired by Fitbit in 2016 and later became part of Google’s ecosystem after Fitbit’s acquisition. Despite a strong and loyal fanbase, Pebble struggled to compete with giants like Apple and Samsung. However, after Google agreed to open-source Pebble’s software, Migicovsky announced earlier this year that the brand would make a return. With the trademark back in his hands, Pebble is poised to continue its legacy, empowering developers to create software and hardware related to the brand. This move restores a piece of the smartwatch history and highlights the power of brand recovery in the tech industry.
