Pinwheel launches a smartwatch with an AI chatbot designed for kids’ safety

Pinwheel, a tech company focusing on kid-friendly devices, has introduced the Pinwheel Watch, a smartwatch designed for children aged 7 to 14. Priced at $160 with a $15 monthly subscription, this watch is marketed as a safe alternative to smartphones, eliminating access to social media and the internet. It includes parental control features such as GPS tracking, a camera, and voice-to-text messaging. Additionally, it has a unique feature: an AI chatbot called PinwheelGPT, which aims to provide children with answers to their questions while being monitored by parents. This AI assistant is designed with safeguards to avoid sensitive or inappropriate topics. Parents can also monitor their children’s interactions with the AI and can disable the chatbot if needed. The Pinwheel Watch comes with other features, such as mini-games, video calling, and text messaging. It is now available in the U.S., Australia, Canada, and the U.K., with plans to expand. Pinwheel aims to differentiate itself from other wearable devices by focusing on children’s safety and convenience, competing in the growing smart wearable market.
