Punjab to deploy specialised units for drone surveillance and neutralisation
The Punjab government has decided to establish anti-drone units in every district of the province to tackle unauthorised drones operated by enemies of Pakistan or miscreants. According to the Home Department, these units will use advanced jamming technology to disable suspicious drones and will conduct aerial surveillance with specialised drone fleets. Each unit and its systems will function under the leadership of the respective District Police Officer. The announcement comes after the federal government imposed a countrywide ban on drone operations following heightened tensions with Afghanistan due to border clashes. The Punjab government has also enforced Section 144, prohibiting outdoor drone flights in the province. ISPR officials confirmed that recent drone attacks in Abbottabad and Nowshera were successfully foiled, while security forces neutralised multiple small drones launched by militants in KP. This initiative aims to strengthen security across Punjab, prevent potential threats from unauthorised drone activities, and monitor airspace effectively using modern technology. The move highlights the provincial government’s proactive measures in response to regional security challenges.
