Raycast launches its iOS app focused on AI and note syncing features

Raycast, known for its productivity-focused launcher on macOS, has released its first iOS and iPadOS app. Unlike its desktop counterpart that allows for robust system control and app launching, the iOS version leans into features better suited for Apple’s mobile limitations. The app’s core features include a built-in AI chatbot that supports voice and image inputs, and Raycast Notes, a cross-platform note-taking tool that saw growing demand after improvements to its desktop version.

Other additions include Quicklinks for rapid navigation and Snippets for storing reusable text, though many of these are limited due to Apple’s restrictions. The app currently acts more as a companion to the desktop experience, syncing data between devices rather than acting as a full launcher.

Raycast’s co-founders are already exploring potential expansions, including a custom keyboard and a productivity feature called Focus. However, limitations on iOS, such as restricted access to deep system functions and lack of support for extensions, make many of their ambitions challenging. An Android version is being considered as a more flexible alternative, but the current focus remains on gauging iOS user interest. Overall, the app is a strategic step toward offering a unified productivity experience across platforms.
