ReOrbit Secures €45 Million to Compete with Starlink in European Satellite Market
ReOrbit, a Finnish startup focusing on sovereign satellite control for nations, has raised a record €45 million (around US $53 million) in Series A funding. The investment highlights Europe’s growing space market, as countries seek more autonomy from foreign technologies, especially in critical infrastructure. Founded in 2019 and based in Helsinki, ReOrbit provides both hardware and software for satellite operations. Unlike Elon Musk’s Starlink, which targets private users and businesses, ReOrbit emphasizes full sovereignty for nations over their satellite communications. ReOrbit’s software layer is designed to control both geostationary (SiltaSat) and low Earth orbit satellites (UkkoSat). This flexibility is crucial for countries seeking to bolster their defense, security, and infrastructure with independent satellite solutions. The company has already secured a significant contract and multiple memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with other nations. Despite these agreements, ReOrbit pursued this funding round to accelerate its growth. The company also aims to demonstrate its capabilities with a satellite launch planned for next year. The funding round was led by Nordic investors, including private investors and institutional backers. ReOrbit’s rise marks a pivotal moment for Europe’s space industry as geopolitical tensions underscore the importance of reliable and independent satellite communications.
