Framework Laptop 13 (2025) with AMD: A Modular Laptop That’s More Practical Than Ever

The 2025 version of the Framework Laptop 13, now powered by AMD’s new Ryzen AI 300 series chips, solidifies the company’s vision of a fully modular and upgradeable laptop. With enhanced performance and continued focus on repairability, this model represents a maturation of Framework’s original promise from 2021. Users can either purchase the DIY Edition, starting at $899 without RAM or storage, or opt for pre-built models at an additional cost. Existing Framework Laptop owners can upgrade by swapping in the new Mainboard, priced between $449 and $999. Key highlights include customizable ports via the Expansion Card system, a sharp and bright IPS display, and exceptional ease of repair, with QR codes and standardized fasteners throughout. However, drawbacks include relatively short battery life compared to newer Snapdragon or Intel Core Ultra Series 2 laptops, and outdated design elements such as wide bezels and a 1080p webcam. Despite these limitations, the Framework Laptop 13 remains a unique and environmentally conscious choice for users who value longevity and customization. While some components might feel dated, the company’s commitment to modular upgrades means it can remain current longer than most laptops on the market.
