Hisense U8QG QLED TV Review: A Brightness Powerhouse with Some Caveats

The Hisense U8QG QLED TV offers exceptional brightness, vivid quantum dot colors, and solid black levels with excellent dimming control. Its 165Hz refresh rate and gaming features make it an attractive option for gamers. However, the TV has some notable drawbacks, such as only three HDMI ports (down from the four on last year’s model) and color accuracy issues in some SDR content. The out-of-box picture settings can also result in overly bright visuals, especially in darker scenes. While the TV’s brightness reaches impressive levels—up to 5,000 nits—it often needs some adjustments to prevent overexposure, especially in environments without a lot of ambient light. Despite these minor issues, the U8QG’s strong performance in contrast, color vibrancy, and gaming features make it a great choice for brightness lovers on a budget, especially when priced at or below $1,000. However, if you’re after a more accurate picture and better off-axis performance, alternatives like the LG C4 OLED might be a better fit, though at a higher price point.
