South Korean Startup RLWRLD Secures $14.8M to Advance AI Models for Robotics Automation
South Korean startup RLWRLD has emerged from stealth mode after raising $14.8 million in seed funding to develop a foundational AI model specifically designed for robotics. The company seeks to overcome the limitations of current industrial robots, which struggle with precision, delicate materials, and variable conditions. RLWRLD’s model merges large language models with robotics software to enable agile movement and basic reasoning in robotic systems.
The funding round was led by Hashed and included contributions from Mirae Asset Venture Investment, Global Brain, and several strategic investors such as LG Electronics, SK Telecom, Mitsui Chemical, and KDDI. RLWRLD will use the funds for proof-of-concept projects, purchasing robots and GPUs, and recruiting top talent. A unique focus is on developing high-DoF hand movements, including five-finger dexterity, which sets RLWRLD apart from competitors like Tesla and Figure AI.
Founded in 2024 by Jung-Hee Ryu, the startup benefits from a team of top Korean academics and aims to support various robotic platforms, including humanoids. The company intends to monetize through early PoC deployments and targets industrial environments, logistics, and eventually domestic applications. The initiative aligns with Korea and Japan’s strengths in manufacturing, addressing gaps in local AI startup ecosystems.
