Samsung Galaxy S26 Series and the Need for a Design Overhaul to Support Qi2

Samsung plans to adopt Qi2 magnets in its upcoming Galaxy S26 series, but there’s a significant challenge. Current Galaxy phones, including the S25 and recent foldables, lack the proper implementation of the Qi2 standard, only being ‘Qi2 Ready’ with magnets that can be added via cases. However, true Qi2 support requires built-in magnets that work with or without a case. The main issue arises from the camera layout, which interferes with the magnetic accessories, making it difficult for users to latch on magnetic mounts, chargers, or battery banks. Samsung’s current camera placement and design, especially in the Galaxy S series, causes accessories to either not latch properly or get partially obstructed. While the Galaxy S26 will feature more magnets, the design will remain largely unchanged, meaning it won’t fully resolve this problem. For Samsung to truly benefit from Qi2, it will need to redesign its camera module, just like Apple and Google, whose design choices have made them more compatible with magnetic accessories. Ultimately, if Samsung wants its Qi2 accessories to be as functional as those on its competitors’ phones, it must rethink its design approach entirely.
