Signal Introduces Default Screen Security on Windows to Block Screenshot Capture and Enhance User Privacy

Signal has announced a significant privacy enhancement for its Windows application, introducing a new ‘screen security’ feature that prevents the operating system from capturing screenshots of chat content. This update, enabled by default on Windows 11, is designed as a direct response to Microsoft’s Recall feature, which continuously takes screenshots of user activity to allow users to review their past actions. Although Recall faced criticism over privacy concerns and was temporarily paused, Microsoft resumed testing it in April, making it opt-in and allowing users to pause it. Despite these adjustments, Signal maintains that Recall can still capture sensitive information, prompting the implementation of their own protective measure.
