Snap Buys Saturn to Enhance Snapchat with Social Scheduling Tools

Snap Inc. has acquired Saturn, a social calendar app tailored for high school and college students. Saturn enables students to manage and share their school schedules, making it easier to coordinate classes, activities, and social plans with friends. The acquisition brings nearly all of Saturn’s 30-person team to Snap, although the app will continue operating independently. Snap intends to integrate Saturn’s expertise into Snapchat to create more innovative and social calendaring features. Founded in 2018, Saturn is popular among U.S. high schools, with support in about 80% of them. The app distinguishes itself by blending traditional scheduling tools with real-time social interactions, allowing students to share schedules for classes, practices, rehearsals, and more. The acquisition aligns with Snap’s broader efforts to foster real-world connections among users. Previously, Saturn raised $44 million from investors like General Catalyst, Insight Partners, Coatue, and notable individuals such as Jeff Bezos, Marc Benioff, and Ashton Kutcher. While Snap hasn’t disclosed financial details, the move reflects a strategy to expand Snapchat’s utility and relevance among younger audiences through features that blend productivity with social interaction.
