Tesco Customers Face Technical Issues with App and Website Functionality
Tesco, the UK’s largest supermarket chain, is currently experiencing technical difficulties affecting both its mobile app and website. Customers have reported problems with accessing the app, checking out online orders, and using Clubcards. These issues have sparked frustration across social media platforms. Additionally, some users have faced problems with in-store payments using Apple Pay and gift cards. Tesco acknowledged the issue via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that it is facing ‘intermittent system issues’ and that its IT team is actively working to resolve them.
The extent of the outage is being monitored by DownDetector, which has shown a rising number of reports about the retailer’s digital platforms. The timing of this disruption is concerning given recent cyberattacks affecting other major UK retailers like Marks and Spencer (M&S) and the Co-op. However, it remains unclear whether Tesco’s current difficulties are due to a cyber incident or internal technical failures.
The retailer’s popular Clubcard loyalty scheme, with over 20 million members, has also been affected, limiting access to discounts and customer account management. Tesco has not yet provided an official statement beyond its social media communications. The situation highlights the growing dependency on digital infrastructure in retail and the impact outages can have on consumer experience.
