Sony launches WH-1000XM6 headphones with improved noise cancellation and audio quality

Sony has unveiled the WH-1000XM6, the newest addition to its flagship wireless noise-canceling headphones lineup. These headphones offer enhanced audio clarity and resolution, achieved through collaboration with top studio engineers. They feature a 30mm driver with a high rigidity carbon fiber composite dome and an advanced digital-to-analog conversion system for better sound reproduction. Supported codecs include SBC, AAC, LDAC, and LC3, along with Sony’s DSEE Extreme upscaling and 360 Reality Audio technology, including a new Cinema mode that converts stereo sound to spatial audio. The headphones retain an analog audio jack but lack a USB-C digital audio input. Noise cancellation is significantly improved with 12 microphones and a new QN3 HD Noise Canceling Processor, seven times faster than the previous model’s processor. This enables a quicker Adaptive NC Optimizer to adjust to changing ambient noise. Call quality has also been enhanced by AI-assisted microphones that better isolate the user’s voice. The design is updated with a wider headband for comfort and an asymmetrical layout to easily distinguish left and right sides. The earcups fold inward, improving portability. Available in Black, Platinum Silver, and Midnight Blue, the WH-1000XM6 are priced at $450, $50 higher than the XM5. Older models are now discounted, offering alternatives for budget-conscious buyers.
