Enterprises rebalance cloud strategies amid financial and security concerns

Cloud computing, initially touted as a cost-saving measure, has become a major and complex expense in IT budgets. Hidden fees, overprovisioning, and unpredictable costs have made cloud spending difficult to manage, especially in large enterprises with steady-state workloads. According to a 2025 survey of 1,800 IT leaders, the majority see significant waste in public cloud expenditures. This has led to a financial reckoning where companies reconsider the balance of public and private cloud usage. Security remains a primary driver for moving workloads back to private clouds, which now offer enhanced automation and agility comparable to public clouds, but with better cost control and compliance. Enterprises are adopting hybrid cloud strategies for better cost efficiency, security, and governance, signaling a shift from the idealistic public cloud-first approach to a more pragmatic cloud optimization based on workload needs.
