BleachBit Introduces a Text-Based User Interface for Linux and Windows

BleachBit, a widely used open-source system cleaner for Linux and Windows, has introduced a text-based user interface (TUI) that is currently in alpha. The new TUI allows users to clean systems using keyboard navigation, making it suitable for servers, headless machines, and remote SSH sessions. Users can toggle cleaning options with the space bar, expand categories with Enter, and preview selected items using ‘p’ or ‘P’. Deleting files requires confirmation, and the TUI displays a dialog with deleted files and space recovered. Advanced features include a palette menu accessed via Ctrl+P, command search, component maximization, and theme adjustments. Since the TUI shares its backend with the graphical version of BleachBit, it automatically uses existing settings, including custom cleaning lists and cookie preferences. The TUI also supports some mouse interactions, such as scrolling. On Windows, the TUI is available as a 64-bit native installer and portable package, contrasting with the 32-bit stable GUI and CLI builds. Users interested in testing it on Linux can follow official instructions for Ubuntu or build from source. As the software is still under development, users should expect occasional issues or crashes during use.
