SpaceX IPO Filing Highlights AI Investments, Starship Development, and Elon Musk’s Leadership

SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk 24 years ago, has publicly filed for its IPO, setting the stage for one of the largest offerings in history. The S-1 filing reveals a diversified technology company that extends far beyond its original goal of reusable rockets, with significant investments in satellite internet (Starlink) and artificial intelligence through XAI. In 2025, SpaceX reported $18 billion in revenue but a $4.9 billion loss, reflecting the company’s $37 billion cumulative losses since inception. Starlink remains the core revenue driver, generating more than half of last year’s income. The company plans to rely on its fully reusable Starship rocket for satellite launches and future projects like Mars exploration and orbital AI data centers. SpaceX aims to reduce orbital launch costs by up to 99% and sees Starship as pivotal to its long-term growth. The filing also outlines futuristic plans, including point-to-point Earth transport, space tourism, in-orbit and lunar manufacturing, and asteroid mining. Elon Musk retains majority control through Class B shares, maintaining over 50% of voting power post-IPO. His compensation is linked to ambitious milestones, including Mars colonization and space-based computing. The IPO, expected later in 2026 under the ticker SPCX, could raise around $75 billion with a valuation near $1.75 trillion.
