Key Features and Improvements in Apple’s iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 Updates

Apple’s upcoming iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 updates, launching this fall, introduce a significant visual redesign called Liquid Glass, which gives the interface a glass-like, dynamic feel with new animations and adaptive lock screen elements. iOS 26 brings live translation capabilities to Messages, Phone, and FaceTime, enabling real-time voice and text translation in multiple languages while maintaining privacy by processing translations on-device. The Phone app receives a redesign with enhanced call screening that automatically answers unknown calls and provides reasons before alerting users, plus features like Hold Assist for managing hold times. Visual Intelligence expands to allow users to take screenshots and perform contextual searches or actions, similar to Google Lens. Group messaging gains typing indicators, polls, and customizable backgrounds. A new Games app consolidates all purchased games with controller support and social features. Other improvements include a revamped Photos app with restored tabs, a simplified Camera app interface, smarter Reminders powered by AI, enhanced AirPods integration for audio and video recording, and updates to Maps, Music, Wallet, and CarPlay. iPadOS 26 notably enhances multitasking by supporting resizable, windowed apps that can be tiled, moving the iPad closer to a desktop computing experience. Compatibility is limited to iPhones from 2019 onward and most iPads except the 7th-generation iPad from 2019. Developer betas are available, but users are advised to back up devices before installing.
