Meta users report being wrongly locked out of accounts, sparking frustration
Meta, the company behind Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has been facing complaints from users who report being locked out of their accounts due to a ‘technical error’. While Meta has admitted to mistakenly suspending some Facebook Groups, users argue that the issue goes beyond that, impacting personal accounts, business pages, and even Instagram profiles. Many affected users, including Brittany Watson from Canada and Michelle DeMalo, have shared their frustrations with the BBC, describing how these suspensions have disrupted their lives and businesses. Watson, who started an online petition that gathered over 25,000 signatures, said her Facebook account was wrongfully suspended, taking away memories, connections, and support communities. Others, like DeMalo, reported financial losses and a lack of customer service when attempting to resolve the issue. Despite Meta claiming its moderation process involves both AI and human intervention, some users suspect automated decisions are leading to wrongful suspensions. Reddit forums and social media have seen many users post about similar experiences, and some are even considering legal action. The lack of clear communication and appeal options has left many feeling helpless and frustrated with Meta’s response.
