CipherX Introduces Pain-Free Permanent Tattoo Patches Using Microdots
CipherX, a London-based biotech company, has developed disposable ‘Microdot’ patches that offer an alternative to traditional tattooing. The process uses microscopic, biodegradable needles to deposit pigment into the skin’s upper layers, applying ink without needles or pain. During testing, the author experienced a quick, nearly painless application of a ‘Bold Sparkle’ design, which became visible after 15 minutes. While the method is faster and less invasive than traditional tattoos, it has limitations: designs are pre-set, limited to 15mm in diameter, and only available in black. The company plans to expand color options, including UV-reactive ink, and collaborate with artists for future releases. However, the technology isn’t suitable for sensitive areas like ankles or faces due to skin tension requirements. Though not a replacement for traditional tattoos, CipherX’s approach could appeal to needlephobes or those seeking pain-free permanent ink. The author notes that while the tattoo darkens over days, its permanence remains untested beyond weeks.
