EE and BT Network Outages Disrupt Calls for Thousands
Thousands of EE and BT customers have experienced issues with making or receiving calls as both mobile and landline networks face a significant outage. Downdetector reported over 2,500 affected customers by 14:00 BST, with some unable to make emergency 999 calls, although the government confirmed these services were restored shortly after. BT, which owns EE, acknowledged the issue and stated that they are working to resolve it as soon as possible. Vodafone and Three confirmed they are not affected by the outage. Some customers on other networks also reported issues, likely due to the inability to connect to EE and BT numbers. The incident caused disruption to customer service lines, with some unable to access assistance for urgent matters. The UK’s communications regulator, Ofcom, is investigating the cause and scale of the problem. While the issue has now been resolved for emergency calls, customers affected by the outage may be entitled to compensation, and the networks are urged to keep users updated. The problem may have also impacted customers of mobile operators that rely on EE’s infrastructure, such as 1pMobile, which has apologized for the inconvenience.
