Truecaller launches eSIM services for travelers to expand subscription revenue
Truecaller, the popular caller ID and communication app, has launched eSIM services aimed at international travelers as part of its strategy to diversify revenue streams amid declining ad income. The company will offer plans ranging from 1 GB over 7 days to 20 GB over 30 days. Initially, the service will be available in 29 countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and several European nations, though India is notably absent due to strict telecom regulations. Truecaller is partnering with global connectivity provider Telna and telecom software company Telness Tech to operate the platform. Unlike competitors like Airalo and Holafly, Truecaller believes its existing user base of over 500 million monthly users provides a strong advantage for adoption and pricing. COO Fredrik Kjell emphasized that integrating eSIM into the app strengthens user engagement and creates additional revenue opportunities. This move comes after recent challenges for Truecaller, including a 27% drop in net sales and a 44% decline in ad revenue in Q1 2026, alongside a reduction of 70 jobs across teams. By expanding into subscription-based services such as eSIM, AI Assistant, and Family Protection features, Truecaller aims to stabilize its finances and create new avenues for growth as eSIM adoption rises globally.
