Baykar Unveils AI-Powered K2 Long-Range Drone with Autonomous Capabilities
Turkish defense company Baykar has introduced a new kamikaze-style unmanned aerial vehicle, the K2, which features advanced AI-assisted flight and targeting capabilities. The drone is capable of autonomous swarm operations, using artificial intelligence for navigation, target identification, and engagement. The K2 has an impressive operational range exceeding 2,000 kilometers (approximately 1,240 miles) and can carry a 200-kilogram (440-pound) warhead. With a maximum takeoff weight of 800 kilograms, the drone can launch from short or unprepared runways and is designed for multiple reuses. Baykar, recognized for its contributions to UAV technology, has previously developed several platforms including the Bayraktar TB2 tactical drone, the high-altitude Bayraktar Akinci, the naval-capable Bayraktar TB3, and the jet-powered Bayraktar Kizilelma. The company showcased the K2 in a promotional video set to Dmitri Shostakovich’s Waltz No. 2, depicting formation flying and coordinated maneuvers. The musical choice underscores the blend of technical sophistication and dramatic presentation. The K2 is positioned as a strategic asset in modern aerial warfare, combining AI-driven autonomy with high payload capacity, reflecting Baykar’s continued innovation in drone technology and potential for international export.
