Alleged Insider Data Leak at X (Twitter) Exposes Billions of Profile Records

A massive data leak involving 2.8 billion X (formerly Twitter) users has surfaced on Breach Forums. The leak, allegedly caused by a disgruntled former employee, contains extensive profile metadata such as user IDs, screen names, account creation dates, and follower counts from different years. However, it does not include email addresses. The individual who posted the leak, known as ‘ThinkingOne,’ claims they attempted to contact X multiple times but received no response. They later merged this dataset with a previous 2023 breach, which did contain email addresses, leading to confusion about the nature of the current leak. Experts speculate that the dataset may include inactive, suspended, or bot accounts, potentially explaining the inflated 2.8 billion figure. Despite the severity of the breach, X has yet to issue an official statement. Security researchers warn that even without emails, the leaked data could be exploited for phishing and identity theft.
