Flipkart Narrows Gap with Quick-Commerce Leaders in India After Two Years
Walmart-owned Flipkart has made significant strides in India’s competitive quick-commerce market, now delivering between 1.1 to 1.2 million orders daily—narrowing the gap with Instamart, which handles around 1.4 million orders daily. This growth comes as Flipkart expands its delivery infrastructure, operating approximately 1,020 micro-fulfillment centers and planning to reach 1,500 by year-end. The company’s strategy leverages its existing e-commerce customer base and has seen a 50-60% increase in transactions per customer. Meanwhile, Amazon is also intensifying its push into quick commerce through Amazon Now, aiming to expand to over 300 cities with a network of more than 1,000 micro-fulfillment centers. Analysts note that the rapid growth of quick-commerce platforms reflects shifting consumer preferences toward instant delivery, posing challenges for traditional e-commerce giants unable to match the speed of specialized services.
