Uber and Serve Robotics Expand Autonomous Ride-Hailing and Delivery Services in Atlanta

Uber has significantly expanded its autonomous operations in Atlanta by introducing robot-powered delivery via Serve Robotics, just two days after launching a commercial robotaxi service in partnership with Waymo. Serve Robotics, a company originally spun out of Uber in 2021, began deploying its sidewalk delivery robots in the city, making it the fourth U.S. city—after Los Angeles, Miami, and Dallas Fort Worth—where Serve operates commercially. Unlike competitors focusing on more contained areas like college campuses, Serve exclusively targets complex urban environments, which CEO Ali Kashani argues offer higher potential revenue and technological challenges.

Uber stated that it now runs at an annual rate of 1.5 million autonomous trips, covering both mobility and delivery. Although the exact number of delivery robots launched in Atlanta is undisclosed, Serve plans to scale up to 2,000 units across U.S. cities by the end of 2025. In Atlanta, Uber Eats customers in areas such as Midtown, Downtown, and Old Fourth Ward can now opt for robot deliveries from restaurants like Rreal Tacos, Ponko Chicken, and Shake Shack. The service operates daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., with plans for further expansion. This development reinforces Uber’s strategy to lead the consumer-facing side of autonomous transportation.
