Uber introduces Weixin Mini Program to enhance global travel for Chinese tourists

Uber has launched a Weixin Mini Program, making it easier for Chinese travelers to book and pay for Uber rides directly through Weixin, China’s most popular messaging app. This new feature is initially available in Hong Kong SAR and Japan, with plans to expand to other international destinations like the US, UK, and France. The program allows users to access Uber’s global ride-hailing services without needing to download a separate app. With Weixin’s massive 1.1 billion monthly active users, Uber is embedding its service directly within a platform that Chinese travelers already use daily. The Mini Program is fully localized, offering Chinese-language support and the ability to pay via Weixin Pay and WeChat Pay HK in Hong Kong. This integration highlights Uber’s growth strategy to partner with regionally relevant platforms and provide a seamless travel experience for outbound Chinese tourists, with over 130 million Chinese travelers expected to travel abroad in 2025.
