Whoop Updates Policy to Offer Free Upgrades to Long-Term Subscribers

Whoop, the fitness wearable company, has revised its upgrade policy following backlash from users after the release of its new Whoop 5.0 tracker. Initially, the company appeared to reverse a previously understood policy of offering free hardware upgrades, requiring users to either extend their membership by 12 months or pay a fee. This change conflicted with a blog post available on the site until March 28, which stated that members only needed six months of subscription to qualify for a free upgrade. The conflicting information caused significant community outrage, particularly among long-time users. In response, Whoop has now clarified that users with more than 12 months left on their current subscription will be eligible for a free upgrade to the Whoop 5.0. Those with less than 12 months must still extend their membership or pay an upgrade fee. The company attributed the confusion to an incorrect blog post and emphasized that the 6-month upgrade rule applied only to previous hardware generations. However, users on Reddit remain skeptical, with some accusing the company of changing its policy and misleading consumers. Although some welcome the update, many demand greater transparency and consistency moving forward.
