X app hints at upcoming physical debit card for X Money users

X’s plans for expanding its payment services are becoming clearer, with recent app updates suggesting the introduction of a physical debit card tied to its X Money platform. The app now includes various references to actions users can take with this new card, such as shipping status, activation, and security options. This move comes after X CEO Linda Yaccarino’s January announcement about a partnership with Visa, allowing users to fund their X Wallet via Visa Direct. Yaccarino had also stated that this new payment feature would enable P2P transfers and instant bank transfers. The company has been registering for money transmitter licenses across the U.S. since 2023, further indicating its serious commitment to this venture. Code strings also suggest the potential for features like cashback and deferred debit. X could also be establishing relationships with other payment partners like MasterCard and Amex. This push for financial services aligns with Elon Musk’s long-term vision to transform X into an “everything app,” including banking, payments, and investments. However, the exact timeline for the official launch of X Money remains unclear, with announcements expected later in 2025.
