X introduces official Paid Partnership labels for creator posts

Social media platform X has introduced a new ‘Paid Partnership’ label to help creators identify sponsored content on their posts. Previously, creators had to rely on hashtags like #ad or #paidpartnership to disclose promotions, which could be less visible and less user-friendly. The new label can be applied directly when posting or added later if forgotten, improving transparency for followers while ensuring compliance with U.S. Federal Trade Commission regulations on advertising disclosures. Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, emphasized that undisclosed promotions can undermine trust and the platform’s integrity. X has been attempting to attract more creators by offering incentives like viral content payouts, ad-revenue sharing, and creator subscriptions, but many still prefer platforms like Instagram or YouTube. This feature simplifies the labeling process without cluttering posts with hashtags, which have been declining in popularity. In addition, X recently updated its API rules to reduce AI-generated spam replies unless users are explicitly mentioned, further protecting authentic interactions and sponsored content from manipulation. Overall, the Paid Partnership label reflects X’s ongoing focus on content authenticity and regulatory compliance, making it easier for creators to transparently monetize their work.
