X introduces 4K video upload support for premium subscribers

X (formerly known as Twitter) is rolling out a new feature that will allow select creators to upload videos in 4K resolution, as the platform seeks to boost user engagement and retain users from moving to platforms like YouTube or Vimeo. The feature will be available soon for all premium subscribers, according to a post from X’s engineering account. Previously, paying users could upload videos in 1080p resolution with a size limit of 8GB and a maximum length of three hours. The new 4K upload option could lead to changes in the platform’s size limits as well. X has been encouraging more video content posting since Elon Musk’s acquisition of the company, steadily increasing the video upload limits. Earlier this year, X also launched a dedicated vertical video feed with a shortcut on the homepage of its mobile app, aiming to capitalize on the potential ban of TikTok in the U.S. With this new 4K video feature, X continues its efforts to make the platform more attractive for creators and video consumers alike.
