Xiaomi Starts Delivering YU7 SUVs Amid Long Wait Times and Production Challenges

Xiaomi has officially begun deliveries of its YU7 SUV across 58 cities in China. The company’s founder, Lei Jun, personally handed over some vehicles to owners. However, due to production constraints, the wait times for the YU7 have been extended, with customers now facing delays of up to 14 months. The wait time for the standard YU7 model has increased to 59-62 weeks, while the Pro and Max versions have wait times of 53-56 weeks and 45-48 weeks, respectively. Xiaomi’s first electric SUV has seen high demand, securing over 240,000 pre-orders within 18 hours of its launch. Despite the rising wait times, Xiaomi continues to push forward with production, including expanding its production capacity with a new phase of its EV plant. The YU7 is positioned to compete with models like Tesla’s Model Y, with pricing starting at RMB 253,500 ($35,380). In addition to this, Xiaomi’s first sedan, the SU7, has also seen fluctuations in wait times, though the delays for higher-priced variants have decreased. The company is working hard to ramp up production to meet the growing demand.
