Xiaomi YU7 EV gets over 200,000 genuine orders in minutes, signaling strong market demand

Xiaomi’s new electric vehicle, the YU7, has generated massive demand, with over 200,000 real orders placed within just 3 minutes of opening for reservations. The orders are secured with a non-refundable deposit, distinguishing them from mere reservations. The YU7, which comes only a year after Xiaomi’s first EV, the SU7, has been hailed by CEO Lei Jun as a serious contender to challenge Tesla’s Model Y. The vehicle offers superior features such as a quieter cabin, longer range, and a cooler interior thanks to its electro-shading sunroof. The pricing is also notably competitive, with the YU7 starting at around $35,300, significantly lower than Tesla’s Model Y. In addition to price, the YU7’s performance and features are seen as superior in some key areas, including range and interior noise reduction. Xiaomi has already begun production and plans to deliver units shortly. The strong demand underscores a shift in the market, particularly in China, where Tesla has been facing increasing competition. Xiaomi’s YU7 may be the first truly viable Tesla challenger, as the company continues to expand its presence in the EV sector.
