Xiaomi Launches New 17 Series with Rear Display and L-Shaped Battery

Xiaomi has introduced its latest smartphone lineup, the Xiaomi 17 series, skipping the number 16 to align with the recently announced iPhone 17. The new phones come packed with the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, narrow bezels, and large battery capacities. The standout feature of the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max is the Dynamic Back Display, a small screen on the back of the device that offers unique functionalities, including customizable watch faces, virtual pets, sticky notes, and the ability to preview selfies. Xiaomi even offers an optional Retro Handheld Console Case for retro gaming. The Xiaomi 17 series also includes the industry’s first L-shaped battery, optimizing internal space for improved battery life. The base model offers a 7,000mAh battery, while the Pro and Pro Max versions come with 6,300mAh and 7,500mAh batteries, respectively. Fast charging is also a key feature, with Pro models supporting up to 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. However, the Xiaomi 17 series is currently only available in China, with a global release expected in early 2026. Despite the naming oddity, Xiaomi is aiming to offer tech enthusiasts a smartphone with innovative features and quirky designs, though it remains to be seen if it can rival Apple’s iPhone 17.
