Zenni Optical has introduced Zenni ID Guard, a new lens technology designed to combat unwanted facial tracking through infrared-based biometric systems. This technology, integrated into everyday eyewear, reflects near-infrared light to disrupt facial and iris recognition processes. As the use of infrared light for biometric surveillance increases globally, Zenni ID Guard provides an accessible solution to protect users’ privacy. The lenses feature a subtle iridescent pink sheen, indicating the technology is active. Zenni’s Director of Digital Innovation, Dr. Steven Lee, emphasized the importance of regaining control over personal data and privacy in an increasingly surveilled world. The lens coating is effective, reflecting up to 80% of infrared light and offers additional benefits such as being scratch-resistant, glare-reducing, and water-resistant. The Zenni ID Guard is available on Zenni Blokz (blue light blocking) lenses, EyeQLenz, and standard clear lenses, and is included at no extra charge with the EyeQLenz product. It also offers multi-spectrum protection including blue-light filtering, light adaptation, and 100% UV protection. Users should note that the technology may interfere with facial recognition systems such as Face ID or Windows Hello, which highlights its effectiveness in blocking infrared tracking.
