How a Zero-Dependency Web Framework Can Boost Performance and Security
In this article, the author discusses the challenges faced in a web development project due to dependency bloat and how a zero-dependency approach can lead to significant improvements in performance, security, and simplicity. The use of external libraries in frameworks like Express.js, Spring Boot, and Django adds complexity, increases binary sizes, and introduces vulnerabilities. By using only standard libraries, the author was able to implement a framework that offers high performance with minimal resource consumption, reduced binary size, and improved security. Benchmarks show that zero-dependency frameworks achieve up to 324,000 QPS, outperforming dependency-heavy frameworks with much lower memory usage. The approach also minimizes attack surfaces by reducing third-party code.
